On Sunday, October 11, the iconic Knockdown Center in Queens, New York, will host a compelling convergence of emerging talent as Dancing Astronaut’s 2025 Artist to Watch, GENESI, shares the stage with their 2026 counterpart, WELKER. This event, presented by Gray Area, offers a unique opportunity to witness the rapid evolution of the house and techno landscape through the lens of two artists who are undeniably shaping its future. The pairing is a testament to Dancing Astronaut’s foresight in identifying artists poised for significant impact, and their joint appearance underscores the accelerating pace at which new waves of talent are cresting in the electronic music scene.
The Trajectory of GENESI: From Chart-Topper to Global Force
When Dancing Astronaut first spotlighted GENESI for their 2025 Artists to Watch list, he was already a significant force, primarily recognized as the producer behind the critically acclaimed track "Everything You Have Done," a collaboration with the renowned trio MEDUZA. This record quickly became one of the most discussed in dance music circles, signaling GENESI’s arrival as a formidable producer. By the close of 2024, his discography had expanded significantly, boasting 14 releases across respected labels such as Aeterna, REALM, and Tomorrowland Music. The widespread support from industry heavyweights like Anyma, Vintage Culture, Steve Angello, and Armin van Buuren further solidified his burgeoning reputation. The initial assessment that GENESI was "just getting started" has proven to be an accurate prediction, as his career has since experienced exponential growth.
The phenomenal success of "Everything You Have Done" cannot be overstated. The track not only reached the coveted number one position on Beatport, a leading platform for electronic music sales, but is also on the cusp of accumulating 100 million streams across various digital platforms. This monumental achievement has provided a powerful springboard for GENESI’s subsequent releases. He has continued to deliver impactful music, signing with esteemed labels including Diynamic, REALM, Truesoul, and Disorder. Notable among these are the Freak EP, a collaborative effort with MEDUZA, and his solo Hyper EP, both of which garnered significant attention. Furthermore, his remix of Linska’s "Bad Boy" not only showcased his versatile production skills but also topped Beatport’s Melodic House & Techno chart. Linska, it is worth noting, was also recognized by Dancing Astronaut as a 2025 Artist to Watch, highlighting a shared trajectory of emerging talent.
GENESI’s ascent has been further validated by his impressive ranking within the global electronic music community. He has climbed into the top five of 1001Tracklists’ Top 101 Producers ranking, a comprehensive measure of DJ and producer influence. His live performances have also reached new heights, including a debut at the prestigious Coachella festival in the Yuma Tent, a set at the ARC Music Festival, and appearances at Seismic and Hï Ibiza. These performances were often alongside established acts like MEDUZA and James Hype’s Our House collective, and he has also provided support for artists such as Solomun during Milan Fashion Week. From a promising name on a predictive list, GENESI has unequivocally transformed into one of the most supported and influential new figures in the contemporary house and techno scene.
WELKER: The Brazilian Dynamo’s Rapid Ascent
One year behind GENESI on this celebrated path, WELKER presents a strikingly similar narrative of rapid growth and critical acclaim. The Brazilian-born, Los Angeles-based producer has swiftly carved out a significant niche in the electronic music sphere. His formal entry into the release circuit began with "Element," featured on Diynamic’s influential Four To The Floor compilation series – the very same label that has been a home for GENESI’s Freak and Hyper EPs. This strategic placement immediately aligned WELKER with a respected imprint and a community of discerning artists.
Following his debut on Diynamic, WELKER’s talent was recognized by an array of prominent labels, including Repopulate Mars, When Stars Align, and Three Six Zero. His productions have attracted the support of a distinguished roster of tastemakers, including Solomun, CamelPhat, Vintage Culture, Gordo, and Innellea. His music has also gained traction on global radio platforms, notably catching the attention of BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong, a veteran tastemaker in electronic music. When WELKER was named to Dancing Astronaut’s 2026 Artists to Watch list, the publication specifically highlighted him as further evidence of Brazil’s emergence as a vital incubator for house music talent. His inclusion on the bill alongside GENESI, less than a year after this prediction, represents a significant and timely affirmation of that assessment.
An In-Depth Conversation with GENESI
In anticipation of the Knockdown Center event, GENESI shared his reflections on his transformative year and offered insights into what attendees can expect from his extended set.
Dancing Astronaut: Dancing Astronaut named you an Artist to Watch for 2025, and since then you’ve hit No. 1 on Beatport, played Coachella, and broken into the top five of 1001Tracklists. Looking back, what’s been the most transformative experience for you this year?
GENESI: All of those milestones have been incredible, but I think the most transformative part has been taking a moment to look back and realize how much has happened this year. When you’re constantly touring and focusing on the next show and the next track to finish, it’s easy to forget to stop and take it all in. This has been my biggest touring year yet, taking me across almost every continent, and seeing how people around the world connect with the music is always the best part!
Dancing Astronaut: At Knockdown Center, you’ll share the bill with WELKER, one of our 2026 Artists to Watch, and you’re playing an extended set. What can people expect from the night, and what would you tell an artist who’s where you were a year ago?
GENESI: WELKER is a great artist who’s really coming up, so I’m very happy to have him with me at Knockdown Center, as well as Chellzz and Gabz. I’m really looking forward to sharing the night with them. For my set, people can expect a lot of new music that I’m finishing at the moment and a bit more of a range than usual. I don’t get many chances to play an extended set, so I’ll have more freedom to explore different sounds and take the crowd on more of a journey. To anyone who is where I was a year ago, I’d say to trust the process, stay focused on the music and keep working. A lot can change in a year and you never know when!
The Synergy of Shared Influence and Artistic Vision
The appeal of the GENESI and WELKER pairing lies in their shared ability to capture the attention of the same influential tastemakers and audiences. Both artists demonstrate a nuanced approach to production, capable of navigating the spectrum from emotionally resonant melodic tension to powerful, percussive club anthems. The fact that both GENESI and WELKER count figures like Solomun and Vintage Culture among their supporters speaks volumes about the quality and appeal of their sonic output. This alignment suggests a shared understanding of what resonates on the dancefloor and a forward-thinking perspective on the evolution of house and techno. Bringing them together on a single night provides a comprehensive snapshot of the genre’s current trajectory and future potential.
Knockdown Center: The Ideal Canvas for an Extended Journey
The choice of Knockdown Center as the venue for this showcase is particularly fitting. Renowned as one of New York City’s premier warehouse spaces, it provides an atmospheric and acoustically robust environment perfectly suited for an extended DJ set. GENESI’s performance format is a crucial element of the night’s appeal. An extended set grants him the artistic latitude to move beyond the constraints of a typical festival slot, allowing for a more deliberate and immersive musical narrative. Attendees can anticipate a carefully curated journey, commencing with deeper, more exploratory selections and unreleased material, gradually building in intensity towards the more potent and driving aspects of his catalog. This measured approach, facilitated by the venue’s expansive setting, promises a dynamic and evolving experience for the audience.
The lineup is further enhanced by the inclusion of local talent Chellzz and Gabz, who will perform a back-to-back set, rounding out a night that promises to be a significant event for electronic music enthusiasts. Their presence underscores the vibrant local scene that complements the international rising stars.
A Glimpse into the Future of Dance Music
