Legendary Canadian rock titans TRIUMPH have officially announced their highly anticipated return to the road for a North American tour celebrating their 50th anniversary, marking their first extensive run of shows in more than 30 years. The tour, which will also feature support from fellow Canadian rock stalwarts APRIL WINE, is set to kick off in early April 2026 with two performances in Florida. This momentous reunion signifies a significant chapter for the enduring power trio, bringing together classic members and adding contemporary talent to reimagine their iconic sound for a new generation of fans.

A Resounding Return: The Genesis of the 50th Anniversary Tour

The announcement comes after years of speculation and signals a remarkable shift for guitarist/vocalist Rik Emmett, who had previously expressed a strong reluctance to tour with TRIUMPH again following his acrimonious departure in 1988 due to music and business disputes. In a recent interview with Scott Itter of Dr. Music, Emmett elaborated on the internal dialogue that led to this decision, attributing it to a willingness to embrace opportunity and confront personal fears.

"There’s a thing about fear," Emmett explained. "Like, what are you afraid of? And it’s more a question of a challenge that you go, ‘Okay, well, let’s just see what happens. Let’s not be so afraid of tomorrow or the day after tomorrow or next week or the next month. Let’s just kind of do it and see what happens.’" He further articulated this sentiment by referencing his age, stating, "Part of it is to be 72 years of age and have an opportunity like this kind of drop in my lap and go, ‘Okay, am I gonna be afraid of opportunity or am I gonna embrace it?’" This adventurous spirit, coupled with the undeniable enduring appeal of TRIUMPH’s catalog, appears to have been the driving force behind the reunion.

The tour’s genesis can also be traced to a confluence of recent events that have reignited interest in the band. The widespread use of TRIUMPH’s anthems, such as "Lay It On The Line," in high-profile sporting events, including the Stanley Cup playoffs and World Series, has re-introduced their music to a broad audience. Furthermore, the release of the "Magic Power: All-Star Tribute To Triumph" album in June 2025, featuring contributions from rock luminaries like Slash, Nancy Wilson, and Alex Lifeson, alongside TRIUMPH’s induction into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in October, have all contributed to a palpable resurgence of fan engagement.

The Tour Itinerary and Expanded Lineup

The 2026 North American tour is meticulously planned, spanning both Canada and the United States. Following the initial Florida dates in early April, the band will embark on a Canadian leg, commencing on April 22nd in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, and concluding on May 8th in Calgary, Alberta, encompassing a total of 10 Canadian cities. The U.S. portion of the tour begins on May 13th in Rosemont, Illinois, and is scheduled to wrap up on June 6th in Boston, covering 17 American cities.

For this ambitious undertaking, TRIUMPH’s classic lineup—Rik Emmett (guitar, vocals), Mike Levine (bass, keyboards), and Gil Moore (drums, vocals)—will be augmented by a formidable ensemble of musicians. Joining them will be guitarist Phil X (Theofilos Xenidis), a current member of BON JOVI and a former member of TRIUMPH, along with drummer and keyboardist Brent Fitz and bassist Todd Kerns. Both Fitz and Kerns are highly respected musicians known for their work with SLASH FEATURING MYLES KENNEDY & THE CONSPIRATORS. This expanded lineup is intended to both honor the original sound and provide the flexibility to deliver a dynamic live performance.

Addressing Challenges: Mike Levine’s Health and the Expanded Sound

A significant concern addressed in the interviews pertains to the health of bassist Mike Levine. In December, Levine revealed he was experiencing a hand condition that significantly impacted his ability to play. Emmett confirmed that while an open spot remains for Levine should his health permit, his current condition makes his participation unlikely. "Rehearsals start next Monday [March 16]," Emmett stated. "I don’t think Mike is gonna be able to join us. His health is such that… We’re supposed to go to a [Toronto Maple] Leafs game tonight and do the in-between periods… Mike can’t make it. That’s a kind of an indicator that, well, that’s probably not gonna happen."

The inclusion of Phil X, Brent Fitz, and Todd Kerns is crucial for maintaining the full sonic scope of TRIUMPH’s extensive catalog. Emmett highlighted the skill and experience of these musicians, emphasizing their ability to contribute significantly to the band’s sound. "Now I got Todd Kerns and Brent Fitz, and they both toured with Alice Cooper and Slash, and Phil X, who routinely goes out on the road with Bon Jovi," Emmett noted. "He replaced me in Triumph in the first place. So it’s not like we don’t have a large safety net." The intention is for these musicians to not only fill instrumental gaps but also to feel an integral part of the TRIUMPH legacy. "I want them to feel that sense of sort of ownership and pride in what’s going on," Emmett added, acknowledging their vital role in sustaining the songs’ energy even if the original members face limitations.

Embracing Innovation: Stage Production and Artistic Vision

The prospect of TRIUMPH returning to the stage also brings to the forefront the band’s storied history of elaborate stage productions. Drummer Gil Moore, who has long been recognized as a visionary in stagecraft, has been conceptualizing elements for the tour for years. While the band is committed to delivering the high-energy, impactful live experience that TRIUMPH was known for, including pyro and lasers, there’s also an acknowledgment of modern technological advancements.

"There’s going to be a marriage between… I mean, there’s no way you can’t in this day and age — digital technology, light systems and screens that you can have things happen," Emmett observed, drawing parallels to contemporary concert spectacles. However, he stressed that the core focus remains on the music and performance. "But to be honest, I think it’s more about just getting out there and kicking ass."

Gil Moore further elaborated on the artistic direction for the tour, aiming to create a show that transcends mere spectacle. "What we’re really trying to do is tell the story of TRIUMPH from the early days to the present and really trace the interest that our fans have had that’s gone on for years and now decades," Moore stated. He emphasized that the show aims to connect with the positive and uplifting messages found within TRIUMPH’s lyrics, such as themes of perseverance and pursuing dreams. Moore has been collaborating with veteran lighting director Paul Dexter for approximately six years on this project, with the goal of delivering an unforgettable experience.

The Human Element: Curiosity and Connection

Beyond the technical and musical aspects, Emmett acknowledged the element of fan curiosity surrounding the reunion. "I think the largest aspect of things is also curiosity, that fans from way back are coming to say, ‘Can he still hit the high notes? Is he gonna wear those spandex pants?’" he remarked. While not intending to cater solely to nostalgia, Emmett believes that acknowledging these fan expectations is part of the process of crafting a successful tour.

The decision to embark on this tour is fundamentally rooted in the desire to share the joy of playing TRIUMPH’s music live. Emmett articulated this sentiment by reflecting on a recent performance in Edmonton with Phil X, Brent Fitz, and Todd Kerns. "It felt like it was fun. And I think at the bottom of it, all of this stuff that we’re talking about… really the bottom line has to be, well, yeah, but is it gonna be fun?" he questioned. The shared enjoyment among the musicians, he believes, will inevitably translate to the audience, fostering a sense of communal experience.

A Legacy Reaffirmed: TRIUMPH’s Enduring Impact

Formed in Mississauga, Ontario, in 1975, TRIUMPH quickly ascended from local venues to international acclaim, selling over 15 million albums worldwide and earning multiple gold and platinum certifications. Their distinctive blend of hard rock power, progressive rock complexity, and soaring vocal melodies, coupled with their pioneering high-production live shows, cemented their status as arena rock legends. Hits like "Lay It on The Line," "Magic Power," and "Fight The Good Fight" have become enduring anthems, resonating with generations of fans.

The band’s induction into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in October 2023 marks a significant milestone, recognizing their profound impact on Canadian music and culture. This honor is in addition to previous inductions into the Canadian Music Industry Hall of Fame (2007), the Canadian Music Hall of Fame (2008), and Canada’s Walk of Fame (2019). The recent documentary "Triumph: Rock & Roll Machine" (2021) and the all-star tribute album further underscore the band’s lasting legacy and influence.

The decision to reunite for this tour, as articulated by Mike Levine, was a collaborative process, influenced by a variety of factors including commercial interest from Live Nation and the undeniable impact of their music in contemporary media. The band ultimately decided to "toss the coin and do it," driven by a shared passion for their music and a desire to connect with their dedicated fanbase once more.

The Role of Phil X and the Next Generation

The inclusion of Phil X, who previously stepped in for Emmett during TRIUMPH’s later years, is particularly noteworthy. Emmett expressed no apprehension about sharing the spotlight with the younger guitarist. In fact, he welcomed it. "The total opposite," Emmett stated when asked if he worried about taking a backseat. "If somebody had said, ‘Well, it’s just gonna be the original three guys,’ I would’ve been far more reluctant than when they came to me and said, ‘And guess who else we’ve got?’ And in my mind I’m thinking, ‘Phil X.’" He admires X’s virtuosity and stage presence, recognizing that TRIUMPH, as a band, has never strictly adhered to a single musical leader. Emmett expressed a desire to "give this guy so much rope," allowing him to showcase his considerable talents.

The inclusion of Fitz and Kerns, chosen for their "great hearts" and impeccable character as much as their musical prowess, further solidifies the inclusive nature of this reunion. Gil Moore emphasized the importance of finding individuals who would contribute positively to the band’s dynamic, both on and off stage. "We want people that are gonna be good in the dressing room. So we wanna get good people," Moore stated.

As TRIUMPH prepares to embark on this historic tour, the anticipation is palpable. The reunion represents not only a celebration of a half-century of musical achievement but also a testament to the enduring power of their songs and the deep connection they share with their global audience. The tour promises to be a vibrant fusion of classic TRIUMPH energy and contemporary musical dynamism, offering fans an unforgettable experience that bridges generations and reaffirms the band’s legendary status in the annals of rock history.
